“My 8-week-old baby cries for hours every evening. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her, but nothing I do makes her stop crying. I’ve tried cuddles, walking round the room, offering more food and massaging her tummy but she doesn’t stop crying until she’s too exhausted to make another noise.”
Colic is often the explanation when a new baby, who is otherwise healthy and thriving, won’t stop crying. No one knows what causes colic, but it’s thought to be often due to temporary lactose intolerance.
Thankfully, colic tends to stop around 3 – 4 months of age. However, your baby crying can be very distressing so ask your GP or other healthcare professional if you should try changing her from her current formula to a clinically lactose-free infant formula, such as SMA LF.
