Weaning equipment
There is a whole array of weaning equipment to be found in the shops, but there really is no need to buy it all if you don’t want to, although a few things can come in handy:

- A few smooth round-tipped plastic spoons - these are gentler on your baby’s delicate mouth and gums than metal ones. Try to buy ones that are the right sort of size for your baby’s mouth; you might find small, slender ones fit best to start
- A colourful plastic bowl to attract your baby’s attention. The ones with suction cups on the bottom can help keep the bowl from ending up on the floor!
- Bibs. Some foods stain terribly! Plastic ones are useful as they can just be wiped clean, try and find soft malleable ones to make sure they fit comfortably around your baby’s neck
- You might also want to protect your own clothes with an apron
- A wipe-clean splash mat for the floor is also a good investment to help keep your floor clean
- Clean cloths to wipe up all the mess
- A hand blender or food processor is really useful for making purees but you can push food through a sieve if you don’t have one
- Some flexible ice cube trays to freeze your homemade food in and freezer bags to pop the ice cubes out into once they are frozen
- A suitable chair to feed your baby in. Make sure they can sit comfortably and their head is supported if need be
