Getting enough milk
You can be confident your baby is getting enough milk if they:
- Settle for a period of time after feeding
- Have plenty of wet nappies each day and are having nothing but breast milk. (Disposable nappies are so absorbent that it's sometimes hard to tell. A good way to check is to put a cotton wool ball in the nappy and check if it’s wet when you change them)
- Are growing and gaining weight
- Wake regularly for feeds
- Are awake and alert for some of the time
Jaundice, a yellow skin tinge, can be a sign that your baby isn’t getting enough milk
Persistent green poos may also be an indication that your baby isn’t getting enough milk
If you are at all concerned, you should inform your GP, midwife or health visitor immediately
