Happy baby

First 12 Months

Baby being spoon fed

Feeding

Over these three months, your baby will begin to enjoy a much more varied diet. At nine months, you can introduce her to firmer finger foods such as raw fruit and vegetables and even lumpier foods. By 12 months, all going well, your baby should be eating more or less the same type of food as the rest of the family, only mashed up or cut into baby-sized chunks. Remember, your baby needs small meals with healthy snacks in between. And don’t add salt or sugar to her foods!
The Department of Health recommends that babies should not be given cows’ milk as a main drink until they are over a year old. For now, keep your baby on breast milk, infant milk or a follow-on milk, such as SMA Progress*, to make sure she is getting those all important nutrients.

If you’re worried that your baby or toddler is not eating properly, you’re concerned about her weight, or have any other queries regarding infant nutrition, talk to your healthcare professional or call the SMA Careline* on 0845 776 2900 or ROI on 1 800 931 832.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: SMA PROGRESS is a follow-on milk for babies over 6 months and is not intended to replace breast feeding.  When used in conjunction with solid feeding, it provides the nourishment essential to a baby’s healthy and sustained growth.
